DETAILED PROCEDURE
This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Explain calmly to the child: "One of the most important things you can do with your listening skill is apply it to experiences that are different from yours - without questioning, fixing, or comparing."
Step 1
Introduce active witnessing: listening to someone's experience not to debate it, but to understand it on its own terms.
Step 2
Set these norms: no 'but' / no 'at least' / no 'same thing happened to me' / no questions that question their experience.
Step 3
Say gently to the child: "'Active witnessing' means receiving someone's experience as real, even if it doesn't match yours."
Step 4
Practice: opt-in sharing with active witnessing norms. Debrief: what was hard about just witnessing?

PROGRESS INDICATORS
The child applies all 4 active witnessing norms during a partner share.
The child refrains from comparing, questioning, or fixing during active witnessing.
The child reports that the sharer felt fully received.
