DETAILED PROCEDURE
This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Explain calmly to the child: "Having limits matters. Respecting other people's limits matters just as much."
Step 1
Use these scenarios, where someone's no is ignored or tested: 'Just this once' / 'You're being too sensitive' / 'Come on, it's not a big deal.'.
Step 2
Practice: receiving a no gracefully - 'Okay, I respect that' / 'Thanks for telling me.'.
Step 3
Say gently to the child: "When someone says no, the right answer is almost always 'thank you for telling me.' Full stop."
Step 4
Application: notice and name one moment this week where you honored someone else's limit.
