DETAILED PROCEDURE

This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Daily ritual: before a transition, children check in using a word from the vocabulary wall (not just 'fine' or 'good').

Step 1

Challenge: find a word that is more precise than your first instinct. 'Nervous' instead of 'bad.' 'Disappointed' instead of 'sad.'.

Step 2

Model using precise vocabulary in their own moments.

Step 3

Say gently to the child: "The more words you have for your feelings, the more control you have over them. Naming is power."

Step 4

Weekly game: match the emotion word to the scenario - the more nuanced, the better.

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Step 10

PROGRESS INDICATORS

The child uses 15+ distinct emotion words across the week.

The child spontaneously self-corrects to a more precise word.

The child demonstrates that naming reduces emotional intensity (self-reports).
