DETAILED PROCEDURE

Gather the whole group together in a circle for this activity. Explain calmly to the children: "There are two kinds of helping: helping one person once, and changing the conditions so fewer people need help. Both matter - and the second is harder and rarer."

Step 1

Contrast: giving someone food vs. working to reduce food insecurity / helping one excluded person vs. changing the group norms that create exclusion.

Step 2

Discussion: which kind of help is more effective long-term? What makes systemic change so much harder?

Step 3

Say gently to the children: "Individual kindness saves lives one at a time. Systemic change saves them by the thousands."

Step 4

Seed a small systemic change project in the school community.

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Step 10

PROGRESS INDICATORS
