DETAILED PROCEDURE

Gather the whole group together in a circle for this activity. Explain calmly to the children: "Every great team needs a leader. But a team of only leaders fails. The other roles are just as important."

Step 1

Introduce 5 non-leadership roles: supporter (keeps team morale up), encourager (acknowledges effort), detail-checker (catches errors), devil's advocate (challenges assumptions), synthesizer (pulls ideas together).

Step 2

Assign each child a role for a group activity - including non-leadership ones.

Step 3

Say gently to the children: "The best team player isn't the loudest person. It's the person whose role is always filled, even when no one notices."

Step 4

Reflection: which role was hardest? Which felt most natural?

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Step 10

PROGRESS INDICATORS

The child fulfills a non-leadership role for the duration of a group task.

The child identifies how their role contributed to the group's success.
