DETAILED PROCEDURE

This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Explain calmly to the child: "Forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood things. Let's clear up the confusion."

Step 1

Address these myths to bust: Forgiveness means what they did was okay (NO) / Forgiveness means you have to be friends again (NO) / Forgiveness is for the other person (IT'S MOSTLY FOR YOU) / Forgiveness is instant (IT TAKES TIME).

Step 2

True definition: forgiving is choosing to release the pain and anger - not for their sake, but for yours.

Step 3

Say gently to the child: "Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and hoping the other person gets sick. Forgiveness is putting the poison down."

Step 4

Discussion: have you ever felt lighter after forgiving someone?

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Step 10

PROGRESS INDICATORS
