Accountability protocol card (Acknowledge + Own + Repair + Recommit)
DETAILED PROCEDURE
Set up this activity in pairs. Explain calmly to the children: "Accountability means owning what you did without tearing yourself apart. It's different from shame."
Step 1
Teach the protocol: Acknowledge (name what happened) + Own (no excuses, no blame) + Repair (what you'll do to fix it) + Recommit (what you'll do differently).
Step 2
Use these vignettes: practice the protocol for common rule-breaking situations.
Step 3
Say gently to the children: "'I messed up and here's what I'll do' is far more powerful - and far more trusted - than a hundred excuses."
Step 4
Role play and debrief: how does it feel to be on the receiving end of this kind of accountability?
Step 5
Step 6
Step 7

PROGRESS INDICATORS
The child uses all 4 parts of the accountability protocol in a role play.
The child delivers accountability without self-attacking or excuse-making.
The child reports feeling respected when others use the protocol.
