DETAILED PROCEDURE

This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Explain calmly to the child: "In close relationships - especially early romantic ones - there is a particular trap: confusing self-erasure with love. Healthy love gives generously from a full self, not from an empty one."

Step 1

Distinguish: generous love (I give to you while remaining myself) vs. self-erasure (I give myself away and lose who I am).

Step 2

Warning signs of self-erasure: your needs consistently come last / you can't remember your preferences / you change your opinions to match theirs / you feel invisible in the relationship.

Step 3

Say gently to the child: "You cannot love well from an empty place. Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is what makes real love possible."

Step 4

Personal audit: in your closest relationship, is your generosity coming from fullness or from depletion?

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Step 10

PROGRESS INDICATORS

The child distinguishes generous love from self-erasure in 5 scenarios.

The child identifies 2 warning signs of self-erasure in their own relationships.

The child articulates one way they will maintain themselves in a current relationship.
