DETAILED PROCEDURE

Set up this activity in pairs. Explain calmly to the children: "Private accountability is hard. Public accountability - owning something in front of peers - is one of the most courage-requiring acts there is."

Step 1

Why it matters: public harm sometimes requires public repair (a rumor spread publicly / an unkind comment said in front of others).

Step 2

Public accountability structure: acknowledge specifically / no excuse / direct address to those affected / state what will change.

Step 3

Say gently to the children: "The size of the repair should match the size of the harm. If it happened publicly, the repair needs to be public too."

Step 4

Role play: deliver a public acknowledgment in front of peers; practice receiving it well.

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Step 10

PROGRESS INDICATORS

The child delivers a public acknowledgment using all 4 structural elements.

The child receives a public acknowledgment without minimizing it.

The child identifies when private vs. public accountability is appropriate.
