DETAILED PROCEDURE

Set up this activity in pairs. Explain calmly to the children: "Negotiation isn't arguing. It's finding something that works for both people."

Step 1

Explain the three negotiation moves: offer, counter-offer, agree.

Step 2

Use these scenarios: deciding who uses the computer first / splitting limited materials / choosing a group activity when opinions differ.

Step 3

Say gently to the children: "A good deal means both people give a little and both people get something. That's the win."

Step 4

Practice partner negotiations; observe and debrief: what made it work or not work?
