DETAILED PROCEDURE

This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Stage a common argument (e.g., over a toy) using puppets.

Step 1

Stop the scene: "Hold on! Let's look at what's happening. How does the blue puppet feel?"

Step 2

Invite children to suggest replacement words: "What could she say to help herself?"

Step 3

Replay the scene incorporating the child's proposed solution.
