DETAILED PROCEDURE
This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Explain calmly to the child: "Sometimes you need to say something that's hard to hear. A truth sandwich helps the person receive it."
Step 1
Structure: Kind opener (something genuine and positive) + Hard truth (specific, factual, not attacking) + Caring closer (what you want for them or the relationship).
Step 2
Practice for 5 difficult scenarios: telling a friend their idea won't work / pointing out an unfair behavior / giving uncomfortable feedback.
Step 3
Say gently to the child: "The truth without kindness is brutality. Kindness without truth is dishonesty. You need both."
Step 4
Role play: deliver the truth sandwich and observe the reaction.
