Learning goal :

Developing My Ability to Communicate Harmoniously with Others

Pedagogical Intention :

Expressing Myself Nonviolently and Respectfully

Target skills :

Cross-cultural communication, Style adaptation, Communication norms awareness

Materials :

Cross-cultural communication style cards, style adaptation practice

Detailed procedure :

1. Introduction: "Different cultures, families, and communities have fundamentally different communication norms - about directness, eye contact, silence, emotional expression, and respect. Without awareness, these differences create constant misunderstanding."
2. Explore key differences: direct vs. indirect communication / high-context vs. low-context communication / individual vs. collective framing / different norms around silence and interruption.
3. Practice: adapt a communication to 3 different style preferences without losing the core message.
4. Script: "Adapting your communication style to someone else's norms is not inauthentic. It's intelligent respect."
5. Identify: what is your default communication style? Where does it create friction?

Progress Indicators :

Identifies their default communication style accurately. Adapts a message to 3 different communication style preferences. Reports reduced friction in one cross-style relationship after practice.

Research Foundations :

Mesquita (2021); Hall (1976); Rosenberg (2003)
