DETAILED PROCEDURE

This activity works best one-on-one, or with one child at a time within a small group. Explain calmly to the child: "Decades of research show that people who regularly help others are happier - not because they're better people, but because of how helping changes their brain chemistry and sense of meaning."

Step 1

Explore the neuroscience: helper's high, meaning from contribution, social connection from giving.

Step 2

Have students track their own mood before and after acts of helping for 3 weeks.

Step 3

Say gently to the child: "Altruism isn't a sacrifice. It's an investment - in others and in your own well-being."

Step 4

Reflection: what kind of helping generates the most happiness for you?

Step 5

Step 6

Step 10

PROGRESS INDICATORS

The child explains the neuroscience of altruism and happiness accurately.

The child tracks mood before/after helping for 3 weeks and analyzes the data.

The child identifies their personal most-meaningful helping domain.
